- Social anxiety (avoidance or fear of social situations, extreme shyness)
- Excessive anxiety or worries
- Frequent nightmares, thoughts or images of a past traumatic event, avoiding situations that remind you of that event, difficulty sleeping, and being easily startled or frightened.
- Panic attacks (pounding heart, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, chest pain, feeling of choking, feeling dizzy, fear of losing control or going crazy, fear of dying, etc)
- Obsessive or persistent thoughts, images or ideas that cause distress or anxiety
- Obsessive or compulsive behaviours such as repeated hand washing, ordering, checking or counting, praying, or repeating words
- Fear of being trapped in a place or situation
Counselling can help you learn skills to better manage anxiety, so you can get back to doing things that you enjoy, have new experience, feel more alive and no longer be limited by your fear. You may feel more at ease with yourself and be more accepting of who you are. You may also find the relaxation skills you learn will help you deal with stress better in general.
